#write31days ~ Day 2: Portraits of My Girls

I think these photos do a great job of capturing the girls’ personalities. Evelyn {top} is a very thoughtful dreamer, who is a touch shy. Lucie {bottom} faces the world head-on, always a go-getter…and is a tad mischievous at times.

My aim with these two photos was to work more on my post-processing. I took my time learning better the different tools. I was aiming for a softened look to these to emphasize my girls’ youthfulness.

  2. People with photography chops ALWAYS amaze me haha I struggle so much with taking pictures, and you seem to effortlessly capture the personality and natural beauty of your daughters! What kind of camera do you use? I’m looking to eventually purchase one myself!

    • I have a Nikon D5100. I received it as a gift a few years ago so I know Nikon has even better models now, but I love it. It is also fun trying different lenses. These were taken with the kit lens (the one that comes with the camera) but I love to use my 50 mm best.

  3. As soon as you said you were trying to capture their personalities I looked back at the photos and could see them do clearly before I even read your descriptions! Especially the mischievous bit. What tools are you using? Lovely captures!

    • It was kind of crazy how well their personalities were captured in these two photos!
For these I was simply using the adjustments in iPhoto but I want to try my hand at some presets. We have Aperture on a different computer, but I would really like to get Lightroom or something equivalent. Do you have any recommendations?

  4. beautiful shots, beautiful smiles!

We love to hear from you!
