Moments {Vol. 10} : 4th of July Celebration

We spent 4th of July weekend at my in-laws’ newly renovated cabin. It is absolutely gorgeous!

And, although I didn’t think it was possible, the view from the deck got better!

4th of July

Not sure if she’s trying to go out or he’s trying to come in, but they’re looking to help each other out.

Moments {Vol. 9}

chasing-bubbles

We found a bubble wand at Target this week that makes a phenomenal amount of bubbles in one go.
chasing-bubbles

The girls were having a blast chasing them while Daddy was cooking dinner at the BBQ.

tiny-dancer

We’re back at ballet after a couple months hiatus. She’s still in love.
tiny-dancers

They had a substitute teacher this week and she was very enthusiastic. 🙂 {She’s wearing my old leotard and shoes now.}

planting-seeds

I’m trying to grow a small cut flower garden in the corner of the yard this year, so Evey helped me throw down some seeds during Lucie’s nap time one morning.

soccer-star

I think we have another soccer fan on our hands. She was born during the World Cup last year, after all.

adventuring-off

She ventured off the cement into the unknown the other day. It was funny watching her little, wobbly steps as she gained freedom into the rest of the yard.

little-garden-helper

Lucie’s idea of helping in the garden is plucking the flowers off the plants one by one. We’ll just call her Babyzilla.

storm-clouds-california

This weekend has brought some crazy, stormy weather. The thunderclouds rolled in on Friday night with some awesome lightening. {The last time we had one there was a tree between those two tall ones at the end of the road that got zapped and split in half!}

rain-reflections

Enough rain came down that there was still standing water in the morning. What a blessing for California!

Sunday-morning-treat

A sweet Sunday morning treat at one of our favorite breakfast spots in Folsom.

peek-a-boo

Lucie is always happy to be outside and adventuring!

tickles

Lucie got some tickles….

kissesAnd mama got some kisses. 🙂

Moments ~ {Vol. 8}

outdoor play

Lots of time outside during these beautiful Spring days. Evelyn draws, Lucie observes.

rosebuds

We have a single rosebush on our backyard fence. It is very stingy with the roses. It produced twice as much this year and this is half of them.

static hair on the slide

Her hair is the perfect length for the static look after coming down the twirly slide at the park. 😉

coldstone

Summer-like weather one day had us out searching for the biggest ice cream treat. Success.

picnic lunch

Picnic weather!

strawberries!

Need to work on that “talking with our mouth full of food” thing…. 😉

whipped cream!

My daughter possibly loves strawberries more than I do. Is that even possible?!?!

inspecting her hands

“What is this strange stuff on my hands??”

stamping

Fantastic thrift store find. She’s all about stamps right now.

winnie the pooh puzzle

And puzzles. She sits for hours most days working on them.

new york puzzle

Her taxi one we picked up in New York. So proud!

watching the rowers

My youngest brother participated in the Southwest Regional Rowing Championships this past weekend. We enjoyed watching and wading in the warm water.

beach babe

Those rocks were great for sifting through her fingers. Over and over and over….

bean bag love

She had never encountered a bean bag chair before but we happened upon this one at the used kids’ clothing store in town. She carried it over to me and said, “There’s something in here, mom,” very concerned look on her face. I had to explain that it was like a big pillow and it was filled with things to make it soft for sitting on. Next thing I know, I come around the corner and find her like this. She understood. 🙂
fun with friends

We celebrated a good friend’s birthday this week with a gathering of wonderful faces that we love to see.

happy birthday matt

His wife made a delicious ice cream cake with funfetti cake and butterfinger ice cream per his request. It was a great combo!

blowing out the candles

Happy birthday, Matt!

Moments {Vol. 7}

swinging at the park

Always enjoy swinging together. “Stisters” – as Evey likes to say.

milkshakes at the park

Picnic in the park per Evey’s request, complete with milkshakes.

strolling at the park

Not too thrilled that she’s missing out on the milkshake.

resting

Sleeping off all that awful illness and allergies that just won’t quit.

St. Francis hug

Hugging her friend, St. Francis, when she spotted him at the nursery.

standing at the bookcaseShe’s pulling up on EVERYTHING {and unloading EVERYTHING}.

mixing up waffles

My little helper in the kitchen mixing up Sunday morning waffles.

cousins meeting Jed

Cousins meeting Gram and Pumpkin’s newest addition – Jed, the puppy. {He almost disappears in this pic!}

hanging with Jed

Not sure who wins the cute contest here {but the grumpy face may disqualify you, Lucie}. 😉

bone for Jed

Evey picked out a little, rubber bone for Jed at the store and was excited to bring it to him at the puppy shower.

Jed's puppy shower cake

Puppy shower kibble cake made by my uber-talented SIL, Nancy.

exercise attempts

Trying SO HARD to get back into an exercise routine {but mostly failing miserably}. Although, these cute leggings from Nell at Whole Parenting Goods help me find some joy in the endeavor.

Easter crafting

Easter crafting it up. {Never finished our project, though. Story of life right now….}

Easter bunny

This is what it means to have an older sister. She sure is a cute bunny, though.

visiting great grandma

Visiting Great-Grandma’s grave on the 2nd anniversary of her death, which happened to fall on Good Friday this year.

flowers for great grandma

Helping Grandma put flowers at the gravestone.

sponge painting

Artful Tot at the Crocker this week. We thoroughly enjoyed stamping with the finger paint. {But preferred not to get our fingers messy.}

glue blobs

The glue was also a hit. She just sat there squeezing it for 15 minutes straight, into a little pile on her paper. She was fascinated.

le chat noir

Skipped {literally} through the Toulouse-Latrec exhibit at the Crocker, where our favorite {of course} was the black cat {although we misnamed it the “white cat”}. Perhaps for what it lacked?

old soul tea break

Intense rain storm called for a warming treat at a local coffee shop where they know how to do latte art right. Evey and I read while Lucie napped in her carseat. A huge thunderstorm blew in while we were enjoying our treat and we watched it hail for a few minutes, and heard the thunder which drew rather close. It was special, peaceful, wonderful moment I shared with my lovely Evelyn. <3

library explorations

Waiting for Daddy to finish work, we killed time in the library and let Lucie burn off some steam after being cooped up the stroller and carseat most of the day. She was most interested in munching on the back of chairs. {And I wonder why we’ve been sick most the winter…..}

Moments {Vol. 6} ~ Christmas edition

My girls caught the plague of 2015 pretty much from the moment the clock struck midnight. {Never let the thought pass through your mind, ‘Yay, we escaped any illness this holiday season!’ because you will pay for it.} My already full hands have never felt fuller and I’m under the impression I have more like ten kids than two right now.  We’re still in recovery mode but weaning off the need to be held 24-7 {and I mean 24-7 as I (and Steve) have spent several nights sleeping with a baby held upright so they could breathe easier}.

The kind words my sweet, sweet husband wrote the other day were a great salve to my heart. <3 I’m still in awe of how I was blessed with such a wonderful man to journey with through this life.

I’m hoping to write a review of 2014 but we’ll see how life goes. It could be February….or August….before you see it.

In the meantime, here are a few memorable moments from over the Christmas holiday.

Moments {Vol. 5}

I was a bit MIA this past week with all the holiday festivities….here’s a bit of what was happening.

mommy-daughter date
Evey and I snuck away for a mimi-daughter date last weekend. It’s very important to me that she doesn’t feel neglected despite all the attention that I must give Lucie these days. She loves going out for little treats at “the mermaid” {Starbucks}. Fills my heart up too. <3

royal selfie

Lucie got some special mommy time this past week too {thanks to my awesome brothers and wonderful MIL!}. We went down to San Francisco to see the Houghton Hall exhibit at the Legion of Honor. There were beautiful artifacts on display from an English manor house à la Downton Abbey. We snapped a photo in this gorgeous mirror in honor of all the lords and ladies who had viewed themselves within it.

do you want to build a snowman

Evelyn has been rather obsessed with snowmen lately. I think I mentioned that she was heartbroken after reading The Snowman and finding that he melted at the end. We’re doing our darndest to fix this childhood trauma. Steve’s latest attempt was to build her this snowman out of paper towels, tape and a popsicle stick. She’s been bringing it to bed ever since. 🙂

grilling the turkey 1

grilling the turkey 2

Turkey Day was wonderful in every way. We had a quiet evening at home. Steve cooked the bird on the grill which fantastically  left the oven free for me to cook the other additions.  We had a wonderful array of foods we feasted on…and will be for the next week or so. 😉

listening to carolers

The evening after Thanksgiving we went up to Grass Valley for the opening night of the Cornish Christmas festival. We feasted on Cornish pasties and hot chocolate (with whipped cream, of course!). Evey enjoyed the carolers and is still talking about them.

Lucie goosie

Lucie, our outgoing, little extrovert, refused to be fed as she preferred to engage with the passerby.

whipped cream in the mouth

And speaking of hot chocolate and whipped cream, we enjoyed some again {not complaining} this weekend as we watched our newest Christmas film. One of our Christmas traditions is watching a new (to us) Christmas movie while wearing our new Christmas pajamas. Hot chocolate while viewing just heightened the experience. It will have to be added on in the future.

new kitchen!

Christmas came a wee bit early for Evey this year. A friend of mine was selling this kitchen set for a song as her daughter has outgrown it, and we jumped on it! This girl loves to bake so hopefully this will fulfill some of her need to be in the kitchen when it is difficult for me to involve her in what I’m doing.

sleep striking

And this one. She used to be such a good sleeper but has now thrown me for a loop. Ever since she began to discover the world around her, no longer is she interested in sleeping at night. We have regular conversation (loud squuuuuealing!) every morning sometime starting between 2 and 4, and she usually goes back to sleep once everyone else begins to get up. Needless to say, I’m a bit blurry-eyed and fuzzy brained-right now. Tips for ending this madness??

Moments {Vol. 3}

After a weekend of much-needed downtime, we’ve been busy, busy here the past few days. Evelyn’s birthday is coming up this weekend and we’re all about having an extended celebration throughout the week. Yesterday, we took the train with Steve down to Sacramento and spent the entire day out and about. Talk about one, tired mama here this morning. {It reminded me how wonderfully out of shape I am. :(}

Taking some time to rest in the moments of our lives here the past few weeks.

sliding EOn a day I was just at the end of my tether, I made the last bit of effort I could muster to join my friend at the park for our Moms’ Group get together. It was just us and our babes, and she made the whole day better. She talked me out of my frustrations and played with my girl on the slides while I got off my feet for a few minutes. It was such a blessing.

sleeping LAlthough she’s a good sleeper, she likes the Rock N Play just a bit too much. We’ve been {barely} working at getting her to transition into the Pack N Play, and she’s fighting us the whole way. {This day she took a long nap of 3 hours, but that was just a fluke, apparently.}

photo 1(11)

A family dinner at the new table and benches made my brother, Gabe. {He’s the one looking toward the camera.}

D's birthdayWe celebrated the birthday of Lucie’s godfather with apple crisp and a candle.

dance partyCousin dance party ensued at the end of dinner.

L's danceWe’re still loving dance. I think she wakes up every morning hoping it is Thursday. I love her enthusiasm. 🙂

tomatoThis, folks, is a tomato. Not a bun. A tomato. She likes to point out other people’s tomatoes when we’re out and about, and asks for one her own. But that’s not happening anytime soon.

cozy on the couchWe had our dear friends over for a bbq last weekend. It was one of the first cold days of autumn here in California so cozying up with blankets on the couch was a popular choice.

apple pieApple pie was a must. It was a proper Fall dinner with slow-cooked bbq pork ribs, roasted squash, and this beauty for dessert.

"cake"Evey’s imaginative play is just blossoming right now. She’s been making “cake” out of cookie cutters and serving it to me on a plate. She’s taken to her mama’s passion for baking.

on the shelfApparently, her own bed is unsatisfactory. Or maybe she would like to live in a treehouse.

boppy time

We started on top of the Boppy but with our wiggling and trying to sit up….

boppy time 2…we ended up down here. And not too happy about the situation.

Moments {Vol. 2}

A handful {or two} of blessed moments from this past week or so….
