For those who don’t know, Carmel is my absolute favorite place (followed close in second place by Chartres, France). I was over the moon when Stephen told me we would celebrate our first anniversary there. 😀 Although our trip had to be a bit belated due to Stephen’s work schedule, I didn’t mind too much 😉 and was counting down the minutes for our departure.
We left on St. Patrick’s Day, so quite appropriately there was an Irish tavern directly across the street from the little inn we were staying at. We feasted on Guinness and lamb stew for dinner.
Despite the fact this is California, Northern California beaches don’t live up to the warm and sunny California beach scene. The beaches here require sweatshirts and beanies, so we dressed Evey appropriately for the occasion.
Last time we had been to the beach, it was her first outing there. It was EXTREMELY windy and she did not like it one bit. We were hoping for better weather this time. As you can see in the video Stephen posted, it was obliging (although still rather windy…can’t usually be avoided at the beach, I’m afraid).
We took Evelyn around town in her new stroller, stopping in at a few shops along the way and popping in for a quick refueling at one of the numerous coffee shops in town (no Starbucks here!!). 🙂
The following day we took Evelyn out to Monterey to visit the Aquarium. I hadn’t been there since I was a kid.
So many awesome sea creatures to see!! She loved the glowing jellyfish exhibit. There was a tank on the ceiling which gave her a perfect view as we entered with her lying in her car seat stroller.
She didn’t last long in the stroller, though. She wanted to get out and get a closer look at everything.
We stepped out on the deck to look over the Bay. It was a gorgeous day.
(Evelyn was not in the mood for a family photo.)
We found Dora! (But no sight of Nemo….)
Naptime! It was tiring looking at all those fish.
Underwater photo. 😉
Kelp forests with scary fish.
Cannery Row Brewing Company was just a short walk down the road so we stopped in for an afternoon refreshment. Evelyn was a little too eager to try the beer. 😉
Evey got a little take home souvenir from the Aquarium which she spent the evening playing with.
And Daddy. 🙂
Sleepy toes after a long day of play.
On our way home, we stopped in Santa Cruz, disappointed to find the Boardwalk closed for the day. 🙁 Instead, we explored the nearby beach, complete with a lighthouse, watching the surfers try and catch waves.
It was such a wonderful and sorely-needed vacation! 🙂
